Eravikulam National Park is a wildlife destination which is not to be missed by traveller during their Kerala tour. This place is renowned across the globe for its scenic landscape, green meadows, pristine valley and diverse collection of plants and animal species. This national park is situated along the Western Ghats in the Idukki district of Kerala. The wildlife reserve is spread over an area of 97 sq km. This park was established in 1975 to save the endangered species of Nilgiri Tahr (wild goat) . The shola-grassland ecosystem of this place makes it a unique place to see the diverse species of wild animals, birds, plants and trees. Some of the most sighted wild animals of this place are nilgiri tahr, atlas moth, tiger leopard, elephant, gaur, langue, lion-tailed macaque and sambhar.

In 1978 this wildlife reserve becomes the national park because of the ecological, geo-morphological and zoological significance. The entire area of this national park is divided into 3 regions the core, buffer and tourism area.


Anamudi Peak which is situated inside this national park is another popular attraction of this place. This is the highest peak of the Western Ghats situated at a height of 2,695 metres above sea level. The grandiose height of this peak heightens the scenic charm this wildlife reserve. It is the perfect place for adventure enthusiast tourists who love trekking, hiking, camping and mountaineering. During trekking tourists gets an opportunity to witness the soul stimulating natural beauty. From the majestic height of this peak one can also have the bird's eye view of entire surroundings which captivates visitor’s attentions for long time.

The peak is famous for the unique species of flowers that sprout once in 12 years. The rare blooming of blue coloured flowers across the peak makes this a breathtakingly beautiful place which spellbinds visitors. Large number of tourists from across the globe comes here to see these rare natural phenomena.
